Etowah County Drug Take Back

Etowah County Courthouse, 800 Forrest Ave. Gadsden AL, 35901

The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit is joining with other law enforcement agencies across the country for National Take Back Day, where residents can bring unneeded or unwanted prescription medications for disposal. This year the Etowah County Extension Office is partnering to help spread the word and help grow the project.
The DEA’s National Prescription Drug Tack Back Day events are one way to dispose of unneeded medications. Safely and securely drop off your unwanted or unused medications at the Etowah County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday April 30, 2022. The Extension Office will provide bags to collect your unwanted medications for the next take back event.
Unused and unneeded medications are both environmental and public safety issue. Most opioid addictions start with prescription pills found in medicine cabinets at home and pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision.
Medications that are disposed of improperly can also have wide ranging environmental impacts. Flushing medicines can lead to the contamination of soil, water, and wildlife resources in Alabama. They can also end up in our waterways leading to contamination of drinking water.
