VCLLI: Southeast Diabetes Faith Initiative PreventT2

Online

The Southeast Diabetes Faith Initiative (SDFI) helps participants achieve moderate weight loss by eating well and being active. SDFI is a yearlong program designed for people with prediabetes. It is also designed for people who are at high risk for type 2 diabetes and want to lower their risk.
By the end of the first six months, the overall goal is to:
• Lose at least 5 to 7 percent of your starting weight.
• Get at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week.

By the end of the second six months, the goal is to:
• Keep off the weight you have lost.
• Keep working toward your weight goal.
• Continue getting at least 150 minutes of activity each week.

Breastfeeding Friendly Certification Training

Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care Certification is a certification for child care providers. Following the training, interested providers must implement the five requirements for becoming breastfeeding friendly. Child care providers will receive a tool kit that guides them through the process and provides resources and tips for each requirement. The five requirements include policy and environmental changes needed to become a Breastfeeding Friendly site. This valuable opportunity is recognized by the Department of Human Resources and 2 professional development hours are received. The certification is valid for 2 years.

The series primary goal is to educate Alabama residents on practical ways to implement heart disease preventing strategies through culturally competent nutrition education strategies.

The target participation is primary food preparers of underrepresented and/or minority status; individuals identifying as low-income earners, rural Alabama residents and those with underlying health issues attributed to diet and lifestyle.
Healthy for Life objectives are to:
• Identify hidden sources of sodium and fat in foods
• Help participants to prepare heart healthy vegetarian meals and
• Incorporate mindful eating strategies to enhance their overall well-being.
