Invasive Species Workshop

Attendees will learn about worker protection standards, review herbicide labels, discuss forestry herbicides and application methods, learn how to identify invasive plants and associated control options. We will move outside for demonstrations on calibrating sprayers, hack-and-squirt, and basal bark application techniques.

We will focus on the requirements of different homesteading endeavors and how to make them into a successful business. Economists and production specialists with The Alabama Cooperative Extension System will discuss budgets and requirements for a variety of fruit, vegetable and livestock enterprises. This program is not a “how to” program, but a “can I” or “should I” program. Veteran’s Gardening Project Workshop

Veterans and their families and/or support networks are invited to build and strengthen the local food system while coming together for a hands-on, mission-driven, gardening project. From tomatoes to native pollinator beds, veterans from all age groups and backgrounds will be invited to utilize the raised bed gardens at Landmark Park outside of Dothan Alabama.

The program will host a series of workshops that will cover the basics of gardening for those who are just beginning their green thumb journey as well as other topics for those who are more experienced. All programs will be held at Landmark Park and a short workday will follow the educational aspect, weather dependent.

Tools will be available to use while at the park and seeds will be provided. We ask that you wear a mask and bring your own gardening gloves. Any additional produce not harvested for personal use will be sent to the local food bank as part of Alabama Extension’s Grow More Give More program.
There will be workshops held every third Saturday and every third Wednesday on opposite schedules. Each workshop will begin at 9:00 AM and go to roughly 11:30 AM. Part of the workshop will be dedicated to working in the gardens.
Come by for a socially distanced in-person event.

All About Azaleas Webinar Series

The Alabamanese Chapter of the Azalea Society of America is partnering with Alabama Cooperative Extension to offer a public educational program about azaleas this spring. A four part “All About Azaleas” series of webinars via Zoom will be presented by Extension agents, Extension specialists, local Society members, and azalea enthusiasts. The goal of this introductory azalea course is to increase the appreciation and knowledge of azaleas as well as build up interest in membership.
