Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) Train-the-Trainer

Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) Train-the-Trainer is an in-depth, 3-day training for passionate community members who want to be trained in diabetes education and management. Upon completion, the trainer is a certified DEEP educator. As certified trainers, people can give back to their communities and work with people with pre-diabetes or diabetes and care providers. By extending the knowledge and skills necessary to reduce complications resulting from diabetes, the trainers provide a valuable service to members of their communities. The cost is $100 per trainer and valid for 3 years. Auburn University CEUs are available (2.0 CEUs or 20 contact hours).

We will focus on the requirements of different homesteading endeavors and how to make them into a successful business. Economists and production specialists with The Alabama Cooperative Extension System will discuss budgets and requirements for a variety of fruit, vegetable and livestock enterprises. This program is not a “how to” program, but a “can I” or “should I” program. The program is designed to help potential producers know the opportunities, requirements, and possible pitfalls associated with multiple small scale agricultural business enterprises and to evaluate the appropriateness of each enterprise for their situation.

Recreational Pond Management

Creating and maintaining the quality of fishing that you desire for a pond begins with proper stocking and is maintained with proper harvest. In this workshop we’ll discuss different fish pond management strategies along with the proper stocking and harvest rates that are required to produce and maintain quality fishing for largemouth bass, bream, and/or channel catfish. Other topics will include aquatic plant and nuisance wildlife control. This workshop will include educational presentations and outdoor demonstrations.
