Diabetes Empowerment Education Program

The 6 classes are designed to educate individuals on how to best control their blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels; empower individuals to establish relationships with primary care providers; encourage better nutrition and regular exercise; encourage lifestyle changes that lead to the reduction in the number of limb amputations; express the importance of developing support networks of family, friends and existing community-based social services.

To encourage this exchange, the conference includes oral and poster sessions (for submission instructions, see Participation below), plenary sessions, and networking opportunities. In addition to the broad array of topics on which we always encourage submission for the annual conference, we welcome individuals who wish to propose special sessions on themed tracks consisting of a core of invited presentations. If you are interested in organizing a special session, please contact a member of the organizing committee to discuss details.

The final conference program is determined by the content of the submitted and accepted abstracts. Kiwifruit Meeting/Farm Tour

This will be a walking tour of the kiwifruit farm. Kiwifruit topics discussed at the meeting include proper planting, fertility, training, pruning, harvesting, frost protection, pest management, etc. There is no registration fee, but we need to know how many will be attending and pre-registration is required. ONLINE Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care Training

Breastfeeding is becoming increasingly more important to today’s parents. Many families are searching and comparing child care programs that are willing to support their decision to breastfeed and are educated on the best methods for feeding and caring for their infants.

This two-hour training will give you the knowledge you need to best support your breastfeeding families, as well as help you get started on your journey to becoming an Alabama Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care provider.

For this training each attendee will receive two professional development clock hours and a training certificate that is honored by DHR. These clock hours can be counted towards your yearly professional development hours.

There is NO CHARGE to attend this training, but registration is required.
