Tree and Shrub Landscape Management Practices and Evaluation

Come and learn about best management practices for planting trees and shrubs in the landscape. We will also discuss signs and symptoms of unhealthy plants. We will walk around and observe landscape trees and shrubs, so dress accordingly.

We will discuss management of recreational ponds and lakes in Alabama, answer questions and help develop a management plan for attendees’ lakes and ponds. Topics include fish stocking, construction, weed control, feeding, fertilizing, water quality, etc.

Alabama Private Training Course in Region 1

A Private Applicator uses or supervises the use of any pesticide for producing any agricultural commodity on property owned or rented, or on the property of another person if applied without compensation. This is a full training course that is complete with a testing period after the course in order to provide the Private Applicator permit to the participant. *Additional fee of $25.00 shall be forwarded by the applicant to the Department of Ag for Permit. Commercial applicator points will be awarded in AP (Ag Plant) and D&R (Demonstration and Research).

RUP Training for Private Applicators

These classes are designed for the farmers who need to take the private pesticide applicator test in order to purchase restricted use products. However, we will be discussing chemical safety and sprayer calibration at this class, so anyone who sprays pesticides on a large scale will benefit from this training even if a restricted pesticide license is not needed. If you would like to attend any of these classes call the Extension Office of the County you want to attend and make your reservation as seating is limited in some locations. A fee of $20 will be charged for this training and testing. An additional licensing fee of $25 will be sent to the Department of Agriculture and Industries by the applicant. The licensing fee is not included in the training and testing fee. Please plan to pay with a check (checks are preferred) made out the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) in the amount of $20 or with the correct cash amount.

  • Participants will test at the end of the training course (must obtain a passing
    grade of 70 percent or higher).
  • Statewide training/testing dates will be Jan. 1–Sept. 30 of each year.
  • No training courses will be offered Oct. 1–Dec. 31 of any year.
  • If applicant passes, he or she will forward permit fees ($25) to the
    Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries for issuance of permit.
  • Pre-register with your County office.

Spring Tri County MG Class

The Alabama Master Gardener Program is a volunteer training program by which the Alabama Cooperative Extension System expands its outreach mission to the citizens of Alabama. This program represents an effective partnership between the land-grant universities of this state and motivated volunteers interested in educating their communities with research-based information. Master Gardeners are trained volunteers that offer the local community Reliable, Relevant and Reachable gardening information and education opportunities.
