Alabama Rain Catchers

Cutting barrel topAlabama Rain Catchers is a network of organizations, municipalities, and individuals. Our common goal is to provide environmental education and to promote rain water harvesting. Alabama Rain Catchers sponsors the Alabama Rain Barrel Project, dedicated to promoting rain barrels throughout Alabama.

Special thanks to SWaMP (Saugahatchee Watershed Management Plan) for providing the initial funding for our workshops.

Birmingham Southern College Birmingham Southern College

Implementation of rainwater harvesting system for two new dormitories is used for irrigation and resulted in the state's first LEED certified dormitories and collection of over 300,000 gallons of water saved per year.

“The conservation of water was a critical aspect to the design of the new dorms. Low flow plumbing fixtures and dual flush toilets achieve this on the interior. Nature’s Tap installed a 15,000 gallon underground cistern that will complement this achievement for the exterior landscape irrigation using reclaimed rainwater from the roof of each building. The system is simple and very effective.”

Little River Canyon Center

Little River Canyon, National Park: Fort Payne, ALImplementation of rainwater harvesting system for the Little River Canyon Center is a functional collection system inside of a national park, which is reducing soil erosion, irrigating and serving as an education tool.

“The LEED registered Canyon Center strives to be a model for sustainability where we feature energy and water conservation measures such as a large geothermal HVAC system, recycled building materials and occupancy sensors. The entire building serves as an educational tool where we even built an outdoor classroom around our cistern from Nature's Tap”.
