Artificial Insemination (A.I.)
Training
|
This training allows goat producers to
receive instruction on the anatomy and physiology of does and
bucks as well as the advantages and limitations of using artificial
insemination (AI). The AI techniques are practiced on abattoir
specimens prior to using live animals. In addition, participants
learn how to use the controlled internal drug-releasing device,
better known as CIDR that was recently approved by the Food and
Drug Administration to implant progesterone in goats.
Artificial insemination is gaining popularity
in Alabama among goat producers. Goat producers can take advantage
of AI to accelerate genetic gain, eliminate herd maintenance costs,
and preserve valuable genetics.
AI training is offered during the Fall
season. For more information and/or to register, please contact
Extension Animal Scientist Dr. Maria Leite-Browning at mll0002@aces.edu
