Forest Principles, Practices, and Stewardship for Landowners

This 6-week online course teaches forestry basics for landowners who want to start being more proactive with their forestland management. Land management professionals will present information on topics such as determining the best forest type for your property, locating boundary lines and map reading, forest tree measurements, forest thinning for timber and wildlife, and forest product markets. Learn at your own pace with the course wrapping up with an optional forestry field day where you can further your knowledge with hands-on activities and interact with forestry professionals and other landowners.

Conecuh National Forest Water Monitoring Workshop

See event website for details.** Alabama Water Watch, in partnership with the US Forest Service, is excited to announce the launch of a new water monitoring project in the National Forests of Alabama! Volunteer citizens will gather water chemistry and bacteriological monitoring data on select stream locations within the National Forests of Alabama.

This 2-day workshop will be held on February 19 & 20, 2020.

This workshop will cover information related to the water environment, forests and watershed health, pollution, water quality standards, and data management. During Day 2 of each workshop, participants will head outdoors to conduct monitoring practices and visit pre-selected monitoring sites on the National Forests.

Participants must attend both workshop days to receive both certifications.

Each participant will leave with a tray of seeds and cuttings of 12 different varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and herbs for their vegetable garden (approx. 75 total plants). Plant varieties were chosen because of their high productivity and great taste. Learn everything you need to know to grow them indoors and how to safely transplant them into your garden in the spring. Class is limited to 15 participants. Forest Principles, Practices, and Stewardship for Landowners

This 6-week online course teaches forestry basics for landowners who want to start being more proactive with their forestland management. Land management professionals will present information on topics such as determining the best forest type for your property, locating boundary lines and map reading, forest tree measurements, forest thinning for timber and wildlife, and forest product markets. Learn at your own pace with the course wrapping up with an optional forestry field day where you can further your knowledge with hands-on activities and interact with forestry professionals and other landowners.

The course fee is $60.00 + tax and includes a notebook, course materials, and snacks, lunch, and activities during the field day.
