The aquaculture industry struggles to reach the public with accurate and engaging information to build aquaculture literacy and confidence in our food production systems. Innovative and progressive science communicators have taken to social media to reach a wider audience, including younger generations and those with a special interests like great food and travel. We are excited to have one such communicator in our corner.

Emily De Sousa is a Portuguese-Canadian fisheries scientist and content creator. Her brand, Seaside with Emily (www.seasidewithemily.com), is a unique resource for seafood lovers and travelers. The brand acts as an online education platform where Bill Nye meets Anthony Bourdain, teaching followers about healthy oceans, sustainable seafood, and culinary adventures focused on the rise of ‘Pescatourism’. As a content creator, I use social media to take consumers “behind the scenes” of the aquaculture industry. I travel the world, creating scientific content onboard fish farms around the world to show consumers where their seafood comes from and explain aquaculture science in a way that’s easy to understand.
