VCLLI Fall ’23: Diabetes Education

Online, AL

November 8th
Balance Carbohydrates with Other Nutrients
Extreme dieting such as eliminating and cutting “Carbs” are not necessary to be healthy. Our bodies need carbohydrates for energy to help support bodily functions. Not all “Carbs” are created equal nor will give you equal benefits. Therefore, this session will engage you in learning about the best “Carbs” to consume, nutrient dense foods, recommended daily amounts, Nutrition Facts Label, and meaning of carbohydrate terminology (low carbs, net carbs, glycemic index).

November 15th
Strengthening Your Muscles through Proteins and Exercise
Protein is necessary for strong and healthy bodies. Older adults are prone to losing muscle mass because of chewing problems and lack of strengthening exercises. Individuals will learn about protein functions, best sources, including animal and plant foods and muscle strengthening exercises for the body.
