WECAN4U Exhibits at National Conference

By Rosalie M. Lane, Extension Specialist

The Workforce Education Career Assistance Network (WECAN4U) was among 43 exhibits presented at the National Community Resources and Economic Development (CRED) Conference held in Orlando, Florida on February 24-27, 2002. Extension Specialists Rosalie M. Lane of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) and Ray Ali, West Virginia State College's Department of Land-Grant Programs, displayed some of the capabilities of the WECAN4U site that provides workforce and employment opportunities for a diverse audience.

In addition, the exhibit displayed the ease at which resources could be delivered to urban and rural audiences. Its simplicity of use also helps to close the digital divide and to deliver workforce and employment-related information. The National CRED Conference is comprised of a Base Program Strategic Team and four Regional Rural Development Centers that brings together Extension professionals from across the nation to share resources, curriculum, and experiences related to community resources and economic development. The website was created as a result of a multistate agreement between ACES' Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs and West Virginia State College.

The WECAN4U website is also featured in a full-page spread in the Winter 2001 edition of The Scholar magazine. The Scholar is an official publication of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, which highlights historically black public colleges and universities.
