The 2008 Distinguished Public Service Awards will be presented on October 16, 2008, to recognize outstanding individuals and groups who unselfishly assist others, especially those living in under-served, high-risk communities in Alabama.

Six awards to be presented as follows:

• Individual Awards
  • Visionary Leadership Award: A person who has implemented unique and progressive idea
  • Courage Award: A person that has overcome tremendous obstacles (economic, social, etc.)
  • Grass Roots Award: Represents a community's unsung hero
  • Role Model Award: A person that leads by example; guides youth toward worthy goals
  • It Takes a Village Award: Has impacted a community; motivates others to act
• Organization Award: An organization that has far-reaching community impact, organized a tax exempt-501(c) 3 organization, reached numerous youth or adults, has a functioning board, paid/volunteer staff
