Farmers, gardeners, and homeowners rely on soil testing laboratories to provide nutrient and lime recommendations for crops and plants throughout Alabama. All customers can submit samples to the Auburn University Soil, Forage & Water Testing Laboratory for analysis. Routine soil analyses, as well as more advanced testing, are available.

Note. Effective October 1, 2022 the laboratory has updated the forms for sample submissions. Also, to keep up with the increasing cost of laboratory equipment and consumables, the price has increased for several of the more popular tests.

Routine Soil Analysis

For routine soil analysis, samples are analyzed for pH, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. A soil test report detailing soil test values, ratings and, lime and fertilizer recommendations is sent to the customer by email and/or regular mail within one to two days after the samples are received by the lab. The routine soil analysis price is now $10 per sample.

Other Agricultural Testing

The laboratory also offers NIR testing and analysis for common forage samples which includes moisture, TDN, crude protein, and calculated relative forage quality. Other tests offered through the laboratory include agricultural water testing, plant tissue analysis, and chicken litter, lime, compost, and manure analysis.
