Thoughts from Emily
Throughout this internship, I hope to grow professionally by gaining new experiences every day—from field work and working in the office to helping plan and organize events for Alabama Water Watch and the Auburn University Water Resources Center. Also, I hope to meet as many professionals in this field as possible and grow my network of contacts to help in my future career. Personally, I hope to learn new things every day and expand upon my communication skills through outreach events.
The thing that interests me the most about working with Extension is how large of an organization it is and how many different fields they cover. I am interested in learning how to bridge the gap between science and education through outreach events to educate the public on important water resource concerns. This summer, I hope to build upon my project development and presentation skills through the different events that Extension hosts as well as the many events through the Auburn University Water Resources Center. Furthermore, I hope to expand my field work and sampling knowledge to include new methods of analyzing water samples for their chemical, bacterial, and biological properties so that I can take that knowledge into future biological science jobs.
