Thoughts from Kendall
During this internship, I hope to grow personally and professionally by gaining hands-on experience in the animal sciences field while also learning how Extension programs impact producers and communities in Alabama. Professionally, I want to strengthen my understanding of agricultural outreach while developing skills such as communication, problem-solving, leadership, and public outreach that will prepare me for veterinary school and for a career as a veterinarian. Personally, I want to become more confident with public speaking, communicating with producers, working within professional teams, and being able to apply what I have learned in the classroom to real-world situations. I am so excited to work under Leanne Dillard and learn from her about professionals who are dedicated to educating the public and improving animal agriculture.
What interests me the most about working with Alabama Extension this summer is the opportunity to combine science, education, and community service together. I love how Extension can connect the producers of Alabama to the important research that goes on at the university. I am also excited to work with Taylor Sondgeroth and Reid Mcguire on the youth side with 4H, FFA, and other youth programs. I think it is so important for the youth to be involved, because they are the future of agriculture. With several youth events planned this summer, I hope to be able to take my knowledge of what I have learned so far and to pass it on to the youth in a fun, engaging, and educational way that sparks an interest about a potential career in agriculture.
