Venomous Snake Training Workshop for First Responders

Oak Mountain State Park, 200 Terrace Dr, Pelham, AL 35124

This workshop is only for first responders or students currently enrolled in a first responder-related program.

Alabama is home to 6 venomous snake species. While rarely deadly, snakebite can be painful, costly, and lead to permanent disability. As more people recognize the importance venomous snake have in the environment, calls for relocation instead of extermination are becoming more common.

This workshop will cover the following topics:
1) Venomous snake ID
2) Common nonnative venomous snakes
3) General safety around venomous snakes
4) Handling & securing venomous snakes
5) First responder medicine and bite protocols
6) Expectations of snakebite care at the hospital
