Tree Care and Management Workshop

Lee County Agricultural Center, 600 South 7th Street, Opelika, AL 36801

Trees are an important and essential component of our landscape. Urbanization is constantly growing, and rural towns in Alabama are rapidly expanding. Therefore, all trees growing on private and public spaces (e.g., backyard, and street trees) are part of the urban-rural forest landscape. There are also several forest landowners and homeowners in Alabama who manage trees in this urban-rural forest landscape. Therefore, it is important to know how to properly plant, maintain and manage trees especially considering strong storms and tornados in Alabama that cause huge damage due to tree failure. In this workshop attendees will obtain useful and practical knowledge on several important aspects related to tree care: tree planting and establishment, risk assessment of hazardous trees, tree pruning, tree diseases and pathogens, native versus non-native species and urban forest management. This workshop is ideal for homeowners, forest landowners, municipalities and everyone who is interested in growing healthy trees.
