An educational beef production training series (15 meetings – 3 ½ hours each) that offers extensive information of the American beef cattle industry. The training will be hosted at the Dale County Extension Office (202 S. Hwy. 123, Suite D, Ozark, AL 36360) from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. on the dates of Jan. 11th (Economics), Jan. 16th (Genetics), Jan. 18th (Forages), Jan. 22nd (Nutrition), Jan. 25th (Soils), Jan. 29th (Weeds), Jan. 30th (Health), Feb. 1st (Reproduction), Feb. 5th (Marketing), Feb. 6th (Pens), Feb. 8th (Entomology), Feb. 12th (Wildlife), Feb. 15th (Water), Feb. 19th (Beef Quality Assurance) and Feb. 20th (Summary & Certification). A single $150.00 registration fee is necessary to cover program costs and includes the total participation cost for the entire series (15 meetings). Due to classroom size the training is limited to the first 32 paid registrations received. Due to the time commitment for presenters a minimum of 15 participants are needed to conduct this training series. The goal of the training is to educate beef producers on the latest technologies and methods, important for growing beef in a competitive world market. Since change is the only constant of the beef industry, producers must remain current and be open to adopt economically feasible technologies in their operations. The training is part of the new Green Cattle Production Systems initiative which focuses on production education to improve the economic profitability / enterprise sustainability, forage-based feed / grazing systems and environmental stewardship / natural resources conservation efforts in beef herds.
