Venomous Snake Safety and Handling Training

Conflicts between humans and snakes have existed for many millennia. Through both fear and fascination, snakes seem to capture the public’s imagination, so requests for snake relocation–rather than extermination–have become increasingly common. First responders are likely the ones who respond to these snake-relocation calls. To prepare them for these instances, professionals from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and Auburn University College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Environment provide free venomous snake safety and handling training for first responders.

During this training, first responders learn the proper safety and handling procedures related to snake relocation. Knowing how to properly handle venomous snakes reduces the number of snakebites—which are painful, costly to treat, and sometimes deadly. The training and certification earned by participants will enable the humane relocation of venomous snakes, creating a safer environment for families and pets.
