About Us
The Health and Nutrition team from Alabama Extension at Alabama A&M University (AAMU) collected nonperishable food items to address food insecurity during the holiday season. The James I. Dawson Building on the campus in Huntsville served as the drop-off site.
The House of Hope and Restoration Church received more than 100 pounds of food from the team, along with food donations from the Avadian Credit Union of Madison County. On Saturday, Dec. 13, church volunteers distributed 200 boxes of food along with food safety information from Alabama Extension.
Food Insecurity
Food insecurity remains a significant challenge in Alabama, affecting one in six people and nearly one in four children. This challenge worsened with prolonged higher food costs and funding cuts to food programs, leaving local organizations, such as Alabama Extension, Avadian Credit Union, and the House of Hope and Restoration Church, with the task of filling the gap.
