Thoughts from Halle
Preinternship
During my summer internship with Alabama Extension, I hope to grow both personally and professionally. I aim to strengthen my confidence and adaptability in a collaborative work environment while gaining valuable hands-on experience with new projects and teams. Professionally, I am excited to further develop my skills in marketing assistance, Adobe Creative Suite, content creation, and social media management. I want to take on projects that challenge me creatively and help sharpen my communication and design skills in real-world applications.
What excites me most about working with Alabama Extension is the opportunity to serve as a bridge between producers and the public, mainly translating important agricultural information into content that is accessible, engaging, and meaningful. I’m passionate about helping people better understand the value of agriculture, and I appreciate how Alabama Extension connects communities with vital resources across the state. This summer, I want to build upon my design abilities, particularly in creating impactful flyers and graphics, as well as strengthen my understanding of marketing strategies and digital media production in a professional setting.
Postinternship
After completing my summer internship with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, I can confidently say that I experienced significant growth both professionally and personally. This opportunity allowed me to strengthen a wide range of skills, including content creation, content management and strategy, graphic design, marketing, digital media production, analytics, and data strategy.
Throughout the summer, I applied and developed these skills by attending field days, capturing meaningful moments for both the Agronomic Crops and the Farm and Agribusiness Management teams, managing their social media platforms and assisting with podcast production and transcript editing. One of my proudest accomplishments and favorite aspects of the internship was the opportunity to build genuine relationships and connections with team members. Gaining the trust of my mentors and being seen as a valuable contributor to their teams was incredibly rewarding.
My biggest takeaway from this experience is the understanding that hard work requires time, patience, and consistency. I learned this not only from my peers but also from the farmers and ag professionals I encountered. Whether it’s improving crop yields, navigating market insights, or organizing successful field days, dedication and persistence are essential. I also learned the importance of bringing both professionalism and personality into the workplace—being kind, approachable, and reliable can help create a purposeful and positive environment.
To future interns and students stepping into this kind of role, my advice is simple: carry your light and joy into everything you do. Work hard, stay consistent, and take ownership of your role. Build trust with your mentors and teammates, hold yourself accountable, and most importantly, enjoy the journey. Be grateful for every opportunity and never take any of it for granted.
