Major: Agriscience Education
Hometown: Weaver, Alabama
Career Goals: I would like to be either a high-school or middle-school agriscience teacher.
Hobby or Fun Fact: I was the first livestock exhibitor from Weaver High School. I also bred pigs, so my senior year, I owned 18 show pigs at once.
Thoughts from Madelyn
During this internship, I hope to achieve several specific goals that will help me grow both personally and professionally. Personally, I want to become more confident speaking in front of groups by helping lead at least one workshop or youth activity this summer. I also want to improve my ability to communicate with people from different age groups and backgrounds through daily interactions with clients, families, and community members. Professionally, I hope to learn how Alabama Extension offices operate by assisting with scheduling, program preparation, and outreach events. I would also like to gain experience observing and supporting Extension agents as they answer questions, provide recommendations, and connect research-based information to real community needs.
What interests me most about working with Alabama Extension is the opportunity to directly serve local communities while learning practical skills I can transfer to my future classroom. I admire how Extension combines education, agriculture, and community service to create positive change. This summer, I want to strengthen specific skills, such as creating educational materials, organizing events, using Microsoft Office and other office systems, and managing multiple tasks at once. By the end of the internship, I hope to have a clearer understanding of a future career path in Extension, agriculture, or community education.
