2017 Women In Ag Program

September 8 & 9, 2017

Tennessee Valley Research & Extension Center in Belle Mina, AL

Women are principal owners of 14% of farms in America. However, according to the 2012 USDA Census of Agriculture, women consider themselves a vital part of 30% of farms in America. That is significant considering only 1 to 1.5% of Americans are involved in agriculture.

The Women in Ag Program is designed to promote self-confidence for women in the cattle industry by giving women hands-on educational opportunities and cattle handling skills implementing Beef Quality Assurance methods and promoting farm safety.

Specific Workshop Topics include:

  • Beef Quality Assurance
  • Cattle Handling
  • Cattle Trailer Maintenance and hookup
  • Cattle Trailer Operation
  • Calving
  • Forage Sampling, Testing and Interpretation
  • Herd Health
  • Herd Identification and Implants
  • Need for Proper Record Keeping
  • Pasture Pest Scouting, Identification and Control
  • Tractor Maintenance
  • Tractor Operation
  • Yearly Cattle Checks

Only a limited number of women can be accepted into this program in 2017.
