The Pesticide Safety Education Team at the Alabama Cooperative Extension System with the support of an incredible group of employees, volunteers and team members created videos to help give applicators a better understanding of Personal Protective Equipment; the Route of Entry, or way the primary ways you can be exposed to pesticides; acute versus chronic toxicity; poisoning symptoms; Mode of Action, or the way a pesticide exerts a toxic effect on the target plant, animal or microorganism; and proper Clean-Up procedures.
These videos have been translated into 3 additional languages: Spanish, Mandarin, and Hindi.
When you visit the links below for each video, you will be directed to a page that contains links to all versions of the videos along with additional information for each video such as a glossary of terms and a handout of the information in the video.

This video discusses the pesticide clean up procedures. Pesticide accidents and emergencies can damage property, the environment, and wildlife. They can endanger the health of the applicator and first responders and cause financial loss and liability claims. It is important to prevent and follow the correct clean up procedures if a pesticide accident occurs.
Mode of Action – Part 1
This video discusses Herbicides and Insecticides and their mode of action. Mode of action is the way a pesticide exerts a toxic effect on the target plant, animal or microorganism. There are various modes of action that will be discussed.
Mode of Action – Part 2
This video discusses Fungicides and Bactericides and their mode of action. Mode of action is the way a pesticide exerts a toxic effect on the target plant, animal or microorganism. There are various modes of action that will be discussed.
Your first responsibility to your safety is to protect your health and well-being. This video discusses different types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Also cleaning PPE, disposing of PPE, and storing PPE is covered in this video. Wear PPE for any task that could expose your skin, mouth, eyes or lungs, read the label to determine PPE Requirements.
Route of Entry -Part 1
This video discusses the primary ways you can be exposed to pesticides, acute vs. chronic toxicity, and poisoning symptoms. 97% of all exposure is through the skin. The liver and the kidneys are the primary organs that filter and breakdown chemicals in the body. Poisoning symptoms vary widely, how your body response to breaking down a chemical varies on the exposure over time, toxicity, and dosage. Your first responsibility to your safety is to protect your health and well-being.
Route of Entry – Part 2
This video discusses first-aid procedures and labeling of pesticides to help the victim while waiting for medical help. It is important to read the label to insure the safety of humans, livestock, wildlife or the environment. Also in case of accidental pesticide exposure the label and safety data sheets (SDS) provide information for applicators, emergency and medical personnel.
