Pruning Blueberries

Shane Harris and Chip East with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System provide information on pruning rabbiteye blueberries. Growers should prune blueberries to:
- stimulate new growth and plant vigor
- remove dead or diseased wood
- reduce the fruit load to make berries larger
- keep plants a manageable size for harvesting
- provide air movement inside the canopy to reduce disease problems
