Meet Rachel Roberts

College and Major: Auburn University College of Human Sciences, Nutrition/Dietetics

Hometown: Madison, Alabama

Career Goals: I plan to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham for the Nutrition MS/DI coordinated program/internship and become a registered dietitian.

Hobby or Fun Fact: I am a yoga teacher at the Auburn Recreation and Wellness Center, and I have been practicing yoga consistently for about three years. It is probably my favorite hobby and way to stay healthy!

Thoughts from Rachel

Preinternship

During this internship, I hope to gain more confidence in my capabilities as a professional employee, and I hope to gain more confidence in my decision-making abilities. I would like to become more efficient at completing projects and making sure that they are thorough and helpful. I am also hoping to learn about coordinating with multiple people, including coworkers. I am interested in working with the community, and I am excited to see what challenges and learning experiences this internship offers.

Postinternship

In my internship, I had to coordinate a two-day summer camp, which I was the main coordinator of. I got to practice communicating with others and planning/conducting the full two days. Since I was the first person to make decisions, I really feel like it helped me develop that skill My biggest accomplishment was putting together and successfully completing the 4M Summer Camp in Mobile. My favorite memory was probably attending the other agents programs and meeting the communities that they serve. My biggest takeaway was that you have to meet people where they are at. Some people are really advanced in their knowledge and others don’t know as much, so you have to find where you can meet both needs. Every program that I attended had a range of knowledge and so did the campers at the 4M camp. Some advice that I would give to future interns in this program would be to learn from your mistakes, and embrace every challenge because their is always room to grow and learn more.
