Adam Rabinowitz and Dennis Brothers of Alabama Extension at Auburn University were recognized recently during the Auburn Author Awards. They earned the award for writing “Agriculture & Forestry Grow Alabama: An Economic Contribution Study.” Rabinowitz is an associate professor and Alabama Extension economist, and Brothers is an Alabama Extension associate professor.
The study showed that the 2022 economic contribution of Alabama’s food, fiber, forestry and green industries was $77.3 billion. Additionally, the industries provide 273,271 jobs, which accounted for 10% of Alabama’s workforce.
“Being recognized with an Auburn Author Award for the Grow Alabama contribution study is not only an honor for myself but a testament to the importance of this work,” Rabinowitz said. “Our stakeholders need to be able to tell the story of the role agriculture and forestry activities have in the Alabama economy. This work helps provide the unbiased scientific evidence for our famers, landowners and industry leaders to tell their story and be recognized for their hard work and dedication to their trade.”
The Auburn Author Awards recognizes employees who have published a book-length scholarly work in the previous calendar year. In all, 32 Auburn faculty and staff were recognized during the ceremony.
“It is quite the honor to be recognized among all the excellent Auburn authors and to have the spotlight placed on all the work the Alabama Cooperative Extension System does to help our agricultural communities,” Brothers said.
The Graduate School, the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research & Economic Development and Auburn University Libraries are responsible for the Auburn Author Awards program.
