Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Landon Marks received the 2024 Alabama Farm-City Service Award. The award recognizes someone who goes above and beyond to promote the mission of Alabama Farm-City.
The Cherokee County Extension Director, Marks has worked hard to plan and execute special Farm-City events that have a lasting impact on local students and community members. He accepted Farm-City Service Award during the annual Alabama Farm-City awards luncheon April 17 in Auburn.
“Farm-City is an organized program that encompasses my life mission of helping citizens understand where their food and fiber come from. The main goal of Farm-City is to deepen understanding of the relationship between rural farmers and urban citizens. Everyone plays a role in getting food from fields and pastures to the tables of families and even restaurants. I am humbled to be part of such a great organization like Farm-City and feel honored to get the privilege of leading the effort in Cherokee County.”
Every year, Farm-City Week is recognized nationally in November, beginning the Friday before and continuing until Thanksgiving. In Alabama, county committees host events to promote the connection between rural and urban areas, while students compete in poster, essay and multimedia contests. The recent release of the U.S. Census of Agriculture inspired the 2024 Alabama Farm-City theme, which was “Our Community Counts on Farmers.”
