4‑H animal science programs engage and excite young people in topics such as veterinary science, biotechnology, and raising and training animals.

Horse

  • 280+ ENTRIES in 6 different youth events
  • 4,085 YOUTHS entered in the 4-H Horse Project across the state
  • 17 NEW HORSE JUDGING COACHES trained
  • $35k REVENUE generated from program and entry fees as well as donations

Livestock

  • 56 CONTESTANTS in the 2023 State Livestock Judging Contest June 20
    • 37 SENIORS & 19 JUNIORS
  • 48 4-H PARTICIPANTS in the SLE Livestock Judging Contest 2023
    • 15 SENIORS & 23 JUNIORS

Small Animals

The ability to focus under pressure is the top skill gained as indicated by senior level poultry competitors.

  • $12.5k+ were generated from entry fees and in-kind donations.
  • 500 YOUTHS participated in either 4-H Chick Chain or 4-H Poultry Project.
  • 7k CHICKENS were raised by 4-H members.
  • 29 COUNTIES participated in either 4-H Chick Chain or the 4-H Poultry Project.
  • 2 4-H NATIONAL AVIAN BOWL CHAMPIONS were from Limestone County.
  • 37 dz EGGS from 12 COUNTIES entered in the 4-H Golden Egg Contest, which is a 30% increase over last year. Marengo County has been home to the 4-H Golden Egg Contest State Champion 3 times!
  • 276 MEMBERS from 25 COUNTIES participated in the 4-H Rabbit Project.
