Alabama 4-H
AUBURN UNIVERSITY, Ala. — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has declared October 5-11, 2025, Alabama 4-H Week. In conjunction with National 4-H Week, this observance celebrates Alabama 4-H’s impact on more than 100,000 youths annually.
Alabama 4-H State Ambassadors met with Gov. Ivey, a former 4-H member in Wilcox County, at the Alabama State Capitol to declare this recognition and receive the official proclamation. Eric Mackey, Alabama state superintendent of education and former Cherokee County 4-H member, also joined the ambassadors to share how his experiences and skills he gained through the Alabama 4-H program continue to serve him today.

Alabama State Superintendent of Education Eric Mackey met with the Alabama 4-H State Ambassadors, talking about his experiences as a Cherokee County 4-H member.
“It’s powerful for our 4-H members to hear directly from alumni like Dr. Mackey about how 4-H shaped his life,” said Joy Scott, Alabama Extension 4-H specialist. “His strong leadership on the 4-H Foundation Board is a direct reflection of the program’s lasting impact. Stories like his inspire today’s youth to see the possibilities their own 4-H journey can hold.”
Alabama 4-H is the youth development program of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. As the largest program of its kind in Alabama, it seeks to engage youth in high quality, diverse and relevant learning opportunities. With staff in all 67 counties, nearly 3,000 in-school and special interest clubs are offered in topics of natural resources, citizenship and leadership and animal sciences.
During Alabama 4-H Week, Alabama Extension encourages members, alumni, volunteers and staff to engage on social media by sharing their 4-H story. Also visit www.alabama4h.com for more information about 4-H opportunities.
