The Alabama Agricultural Consultants Association recently presented its 2025 Extension Agent of the Year Award to Aaron Wells, an agronomic crops agent with Alabama Extension at Auburn University. The organization noted Wells’ efforts to work with consultants and farmers to manage cotton jassid, a new pest first observed in Alabama last year. They said he did a great job providing real-time information as the situation continually changed.
“I’m honored to receive this award from the Alabama Agricultural Consultants Association and appreciate all that they do for the row crop producers across the state,” Wells said. “I think the Extension partnership with the association is a tremendous benefit to the industry as a whole. We share research results, field observations and in-field experiences with each other for the common goal of helping Alabama row crop growers produce safe, reliable and affordable crops.”
Wells accepted the award during the group’s spring meeting.
The Alabama Agricultural Consultants Association is an organization of independent crop consultants. In addition to scouting for pests, crop consultants help growers with nutrient management plans and variety selection, among other tasks. They are not affiliated with any companies and often look to Alabama Extension experts for recommendations.
