Eddie McGriff, an agronomic crops Extension agent with Alabama Extension at Auburn University, was presented the Duncan Award for Excellence in Production Agriculture and Forestry Extension. He was recognized during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Farm and Land Conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Aug. 16. Fellow Extension employee Rishi Prasad was also recognized during that event.
“It’s important we, as farmers, recognize folks like Rishi Prasad and Eddie McGriff for jobs well done,” said Jimmy Parnell, Alabama Farmers Federation president. “It’s a tough time to be in agriculture, but their work is helping create bright spots in our industry.”

McGriff’s passion for farmers is evident in his 10 years with Alabama Extension, which follow a 30-year career with University of Georgia Extension.
“Helping farmers is what I have always wanted to do,” McGriff said. “I come from a long line of farmers myself, so this is in my blood.”
Alabama Extension Director Mike Phillips said both Alabama Extension and Alabama farmers are very fortunate to have McGriff as a regional agent to serve crop producers in the state.
“Eddie has worked a career in Georgia Extension prior to coming to Alabama, and he is truly one of the best agents in utilizing developed technologies to aid in assisting producers with profitability through pest management practices, irrigation, variety selection and soil nutrient management,” Phillips said. “Eddie is very deserving.”
McGriff helps Alabama row crop farmers increase yields and improve profitability across the state. While he serves Blount, Cherokee, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Jackson, Madison and Marshall counties — McGriff helps producers in all corners of the state, both in-person and by phone.
Carla Hornady, the Alabama Farmers Federation’s division director for cotton, corn, soybeans and wheat, said all of her growers appreciate McGriff’s work.
“He even has farm trials in his front yard,” Hornady said. “Everyone in the state knows they can call Eddie. His ability to increase corn yields in this area is astonishing. He also works diligently on standability utilizing fungicide research and has started implementing drones.”
