Walker County 4-H represented Alabama at the national Wildlife Habitat Education Program competition Aug. 4, placing fourth overall. The competition was held in Crossville, Tennessee. Team members include Carson Cain, Remington Gaines, Clara Halgren and Lillie Miller. Halgren was the eighth highest scoring individual out of more than 100 students. WHEP is the nation’s largest youth program for wildlife management, incorporating land management, wildlife population management and outdoor activities.
Alabama WHEP is designed to teach youth about native wildlife species: what they eat, where they live, and how to manage terrestrial and aquatic environments to meet their needs.
