Register now for the Town Creek Tributary Stream Restoration Workshop Series -- Each workshop is limited to the first 35 registrants. Attendance at all workshops in the series is not mandatory. Workshops will be held in Auburn, Alabama.
Workshop participants will receive CEUs from Auburn University.
Stream restoration and mitigation requirements are moving more and more towards natural channel design techniques. This workshop series will follow a stream restoration project on an urban tributary located in Town Creek Park, City of Auburn.
Introductory and advanced workshops will cover stream restoration using natural channel design. Time will be split between classroom and extensive field work, including project / data summaries and evening work sessions.
| The workshop will center on Town Creek Tributary, a degraded urban stream flowing through the City of Auburn's Town Creek Park. Greg
Jennings, Ph.D., P.E. of North Carolina State University
will emphasize urban stream conditions specific to the southeastern
U.S. Workshop instructors have experience working on more than
40 stream assessments and restoration projects throughout the
Southeast. Each participant will receive a reference manual.

Stream Morphology Assessment September 20-21, 2007
This workshop will teach principles of stream channel and floodplain formation, interactions of morphology and biology, and field measurements of stream dimension, pattern, and profile. Participants will collect and analyze stream morphology and stability data in an urban stream that is scheduled for restoration in 2008.

Stream Restoration Design November 28-29, 2007
This workshop will teach principles of natural channel design for various types of stream restoration projects. Participants will use reference reach information to develop design parameters for an urban stream scheduled for restoration in 2008. They will work through the process of designing stream channel dimension, pattern, and profile and preliminary channel layout. Other topics include sediment transport calculations, applications of in-stream structures, and habitat enhancements. Basic understanding of stream assessment is a required prerequisite.

Stream Restoration Construction January 9-10, 2008
This workshop will be conducted during construction of an urban stream restoration project in a town park. Participants will learn about plan sheet development, construction specifications, permitting, and construction oversight while observing channel grading and structure installation.

Vegetation for Stream Restoration February 27-28, 2008
This workshop will be conducted immediately following construction of an urban stream restoration project in a town park.Participants will learn about riparian plant selection, planting techniques for wetland and streambank vegetation, bioengineering techniques including brush mattresses, and monitoring of riparian vegetation.
