** Completion of the Introduction to Stream Restoration or another basic natural channel design workshop is a requirement for participation in this advanced workshop. ** Participants should be prepared to work through design calculations. Register now for Design Principles for Stream Restoration -- Space is limited to the first 30 registrants. Workshop will be held at the Auburn University Comer Hall Auditorium Stream restoration and mitigation requirements are moving more and more towards natural channel design techniques. This 2 ½ day workshop will help participants gain an understanding of steps needed to complete a natural channel design and review basic concepts of stream restoration using natural channel design. Time will be split between classroom and extensive field work, including project / data summaries and evening work sessions. Principles and techniques discussed will include the four priority levels of restoring incised streams, reference reach stream analyses, and techniques for finding and analyzing reference reaches. An introduction to the natural channel design process will also be taught, utilizing a local stream restoration project. Field techniques for stream condition assessment and the Rosgen classification system will be covered in detail. Instructors will emphasize urban stream conditions specific to the southeastern U.S. Workshop instructors have experience working on more than 40 stream assessments and restoration projects throughout the Southeast.
