City of Trussville

Located just north of Birmingham, the fastest growing area in Alabama, the City of Trussville has embraced natural resource planning for protection of their environmental assets. New planning documents and ordinances have been recently developed that provide for greenway and open space planning. Additionally, the City of Trussville has Alabama’s first stream buffer ordinance titled “Cahaba River Conservation Overlay District”. The Cahaba River is the only state contained free running river in Alabama, boasts the greatest diversity in flora and fauna, and is well loved by those in the watershed. This is ordinance creates a 125 foot buffer of land along the Cahaba River divided into three sections with restrictions increasing within land areas in closer proximity to the river.
