suspended-sediment concentration -- (1) The ratio of the mass of dry sediment in a water-sediment mixture to the mass of the water-sediment mixture. Typically measured at a given distance between the surface of the water and the bed, expressed in milligrams of dry sediment per liter of water-sediment mixture. (2) The velocity-weighted concentration of suspended sediment in the sampled zone (from the water surface to a point approximately 0.3 feet above the bed) expressed as milligrams of dry sediment per liter of water-sediment misture (mg/L). The entire sample is used for the analysis. Also see Mean Concentration of Suspended Sediment.
