QUESTION:  
Are there areas where elevated concentrations of phosphorus in stream water are associated with phosphate rock or large natural soil phosphorus levels?
ANSWER:  
Yes. There are a few areas within the U.S. in the states of Florida, Idaho, Kentucky, Oregon, and South Carolina where natural phosphate rock deposits or high natural levels of soil phosphorus have contributed to elevated concentrations of total phosphorus in stream water.
