Barbour County WHEP

The Barbour County Extension Office is happy to announce that we are trying to start a Wildlife Habitat Education Program for our youth in the county. This program is recognized at the state and national level. It teaches our youth about plant and animal identification, land management, conservation, and much more. Our team plans to get a group together this winter and develop a team to take to the state competition in this summer. Teams are comprised of four youth that are selected from the group that will study throughout the spring in preparation for the contest. Forestry and wildlife is a huge part of the economy here in Barbour County. We see this as an outlet for our youth to learn about the industry and the different careers within this area. Please share this information with your students and parents. We hope to have a good group to introduce at the state competition this year! Please call Jill Wachs or Allie at 334-687-5688 for more information. The team will meet starting January 22 at 5:30 at the Extension office. We also a Facebook event for this event on our page!
