Annie’s Project Retreat

10400 Beckwith Lane, Fairhope, AL 36532

Annie’s Project, a national educational program for farm women, is dedicated to helping women become more actively involved in farm management and farm operations through educating participants in the five areas of agricultural risk management.
The program was developed in honor of Annette Kohlhagen Fleck, an Illinois farm woman that learned how to navigate the struggles of raising a family while helping manage a farm during times of low profitability. Annie’s Project honors this desire to be an active partner on the farm and provides today’s farm women the education and resources to begin to expand their understanding and involvement in their farming operation.
This September, Annie’s Project Facilitators will host a three day conference at Beckwith’s in Fairhope, AL for women in agriculture that want to gain a better understanding of what it takes to manage a farm operation. The event will also provide an opportunity for women to network, build friendships, and develop a supportive community of farming women.
Conference attendees will participate in a number of workshops and hands-on activities throughout the event focused on financial, legal, marketing, human resource, and production risks. Speakers will cover topics such as business entity decisions, online marketing tools, recordkeeping, and production management. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit a local farming operation, local agribusinesses, as well as visit one of Auburn University’s agricultural research facilities.
As part of the conference, attendees will also enjoy a number of opportunities to socialize and network with other participants including during the opening banquet, and Friday evening reception.
At the end of this Annie’s Project conference, the goal is for women to leave with a greater understanding of managing their farm, confident in their abilities in the agriculture world, and with a broader community of farming women support to draw from in the future.
