ALABAMA A&M UNIVERSITY, Ala. — Join the Alabama Cooperative Extension System for the Spring 2025 Community Garden Expo Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Ernest Knight Center on the campus of Alabama A&M University (AAMU) in Huntsville, Alabama.
Admission, lunch and snacks are free, but participants must preregister online by visiting http://www.aces.edu/go/CGExpo.
Community Garden Expo Topics
The 2025 Community Garden Expo will include fruit tree giveaways and a tour of The People’s Patch, an urban farm near the AAMU campus that provides fresh produce to Madison County residents.
“This event is ideal for small urban farmers, neighborhood garden groups or individuals that would like to produce fresh fruits and vegetables for their local communities,” said Urban Regional Extension Agent Allyson Shabel.
Topics at the 2025 Community Garden Expo will include the following list of topics, as well as others:
- How to start and maintain a community garden
- Budgeting
- Zoning and other regulations
- Garden design and site preparation
- What fruits and vegetables to grow
“With greater interest in home gardening, you can learn how to extend your gardening pursuits beyond your own backyard,” said Karnita Garner, an environmental Extension specialist.
