ALABAMA A&M UNIVERSITY, Ala. – The 2019 Parent-Child Reading Enhancement Program (PCREP) Family Day of Education and Fun drew yet another record crowd. The Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Alabama A&M University held the event Saturday, June 22 with more than 600 people participating.
The day highlighted family literacy, targeting children ages 4 through 9. However, the day provided activities that the whole family could enjoy. The on-site bookstore, a crowd favorite, gave children the opportunity to spend PCREP dollars (play money). Children earned the money after completing educational activities at exhibitor tables. Parents also earned PCREP dollars completing the program evaluation form. Other activities included vendors, rides, games, raffle prizes, a pony carousel, water slide, food, music and much more.
What’s it all about?
The Family Day of Education and Fun is an annual event and lays the foundation for children to be successful throughout life. Now offered in five urban centers, PCREP teaches parents, guardians and childcare providers techniques that improve the reading level and skills of children ages 4 through 9 in five key areas:
- phonemic awareness
