AUBURN UNIVERSITY, Ala. — Calling all turfgrass enthusiasts! As spring turns into summer, there are many lawn- and turfgrass-related issues that may arise. Are you ready to handle them? To test your turfgrass management knowledge and learn some new skills, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System invites you to attend the Commercial Turf Workshop June 7 in Clanton, Alabama.
David Lawrence, an Alabama Extension commercial horticulture regional agent, said this workshop is for commercial turf managers, as well as home-lawn enthusiasts.
“This is a great opportunity for all types of turf managers around central Alabama to increase their knowledge and improve their turf management skills,” Lawrence said.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clanton Recreation Center, 305 Lay Dam Road, Clanton, Alabama 35045. The event is free to attend and lunch is provided. However, registration is requested. To register, contact the Chilton County Extension office at 205-280-6268. Recertification points are available to attendees.
Workshop Topics
As a part of the workshop, there will be a field tour that highlights how to maintain mound and skinned areas. In addition to the tour, turfgrass professionals will discuss the following topics:
- Pest management
- Sprayer calibration
- Aeration
- Topdressing
- Irrigation
- Mowing
- Fertility
- Overseeding
- Transition
