Live Well Alabama partners with local champions at grocery stores, convenience stores, organizations maintaining vending machines, concession areas, and school environments to make it easy to live well in Alabama. Improvements in product inventory and placement increase access and appeal of healthy items in healthier retail stores. Point-of-purchase prompts also encourage purchase of healthy items.

Live Well Alabama partners with the Alabama Department of Public Health to implement the Good Choice initiative. Good Choice seeks to increase availability of healthy items and also provide point-of-purchase prompts to make the good choice the easy choice in retail areas across Alabama.

In 2017, Live Well Alabama facilitated adoption of 11 healthier retail initiatives in 8 Alabama counties reaching more than 7,900 residents. These initiatives included the following:

  • 5 grocery stores
  • 4 convenience stores
  • 1 organization with vending machines
  • 1 school store
