Gov. Kay Ivey has placed the state under a statewide mask requirement for people when they are out in public. There are several types of masks that are available for the public to use, including homemade masks. Some people are wearing masks in a way that may not protect them at all from exposure to COVID-19. Masks are only effective against this virus if they are made of the correct material and correctly worn. Business owners and operators should train their employees on how to select, wear, and clean their masks. In Alabama, any employee dealing directly with the public should be properly wearing a mask.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to provide information to reduce the risk of catching this virus. The CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings, when they are around people who don’t live within their household. They also recommend that when possible, for people to stay 6 feet away from others. For more information on how to select, wear, and clean your mask, read the CDC article How to Select, Wear, and Clean Your Mask.
