AUBURN UNIVERSITY, Ala. – Money can be one of the most difficult and frustrating aspects of everyday life. To ease the burden and make managing personal finances easier, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s human sciences team offers the Alabama Money podcast. This new resource focuses on sharing personal finance education in quick, simple segments while also providing a new way to obtain financial information.
What is Alabama Money?
The Alabama Money podcast is a product of Alabama Extension’s human sciences team. This limited-series podcast is cohosted by Cynthia White, an Alabama Extension family resource management and workforce development regional agent, and Portia Johnson, an Alabama Extension financial resource management specialist.
Alabama Money episodes are all created and recorded with their motto in mind—Alabama Money, where we talk finance facts fun and fast. This resource serves as a consumer’s one-stop shop for financial information anywhere at anytime.
Why a money podcast?
Members of Alabama Extension’s human sciences team said the desire to deliver valuable financial information to more communities across the state was a primary factor in the podcast’s creation.
“Studies show an increase of 78% in podcast popularity,” White said. “We found podcasting as a way to reach and teach listeners about topics related to household financials.”
The past few years have proven that financial literacy is imperative in a post-pandemic economy. Consumers have more questions than ever, and Alabama Money is a perfect resource for those who need help or want to learn more about personal and family finances.
What will I learn?
Johnson said the team worked together to identify relevant topics along with industry experts for each subject area. The topics covered in the Alabama Money podcast include the following:
- Changes to medical debt reporting
- Financing college education
- Buy now, pay later purchasing
- Mortgage payments
- Home buying process
- Power/electricity savings
“It is our hope to provide financial information that will empower listeners to achieve financial independence,” Johnson said.
