With the growing spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), you may find yourself stuck at home more often than you are in public. During this time, it is important to remain physically active.

Everyone has those days when they’re confined in the house and the kids start to get restless. While it may be easier to increase screen time, 2 hours or less of screen time is recommended daily. Children need to remain physically active, even if your resources are limited.

Physical activity has proven health benefits, such as decreasing the risk factors for chronic diseases and improving memory and academic performance. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that children and adolescents between the ages of 6 through 17 should incorporate in their daily activities at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise.

Instead of increasing screen time, consider these options:

  • Playing tag
  • Jumping rope
  • Simon Says with exercises
  • Scavenger hunts through the house
  • Dancing
  • Hopscotch
  • Relay races or obstacle courses
