Finance & Career
National consumer protection week is the first week or March each year. The Human Sciences Extension team is dedicated to educating Alabamians about scams and fraud. As this week comes to a close, there are many upcoming workshops for seniors, specifically.
With scammers working around the clock to steal your hard-earned money, consumer protection week is a dedicated time to help Alabama residents stay informed and alert about scam and fraud protection. Alabamians lost more money in 2023 to online scams than people in any other state. In 2023, nearly 4,900 Alabamians fell victim to cybercrime and on average each person lost $50,600. These upcoming events are a concerted effort to spread the word about how to spot and avoid scams and fraud.
