ALABAMA A&M UNIVERSITY, Ala.—Apriell Burgess, an Alabama Extension urban regional agent, recently received the Continued Excellence Award from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS). Burgess was honored on Oct. 3 during the NEAFCS Annual Session 2019 in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
The Continued Excellence Award recognizes members who are actively involved in professional development and leadership activities. Awardees must also be past recipients of the NEAFCS Distinguished Service Award.
Burgess was recognized for reaching more than 6,000 youth and implementing programs that cover a wide range of topics. Program topics include leadership, anger management, etiquette, personal hygiene, careers, and community service. She believes that collaborating with community organizations, school systems and youth service agencies is key to creating effective youth development programs.
“I was honored to be recognized for serving the people of Alabama, especially youth in Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale counties over the past 12 years,” Burgess said. “Participating in professional development opportunities equips me for continued excellence.”
